JM 182 Released

Chapter <-

New Pokemon games are shit. I’m so tired of literally everything about them that I’m not even going to post a real rant. Just a quick tl;dr.

Why the hell would they remove most of the stuff in the mid-high power tiers and then focus their additions on the two ends? Hidden Power is gone now too, so rip bolt-beam coverage for most electric types. I guess they’ve got no choice but to just be sad now.

Every excuse they made about not putting in all the mons was pure BS. The music is absolutely terrible and the game poses no challenge whatsoever other than some early game shenanigans in the wild zone that you can easily avoid. Most of the popular things were cut, and I feel like the monster designs are getting worse every gen. The detail that does exist went into all the wrong places.

Hop and Leon are the most annoying characters I’ve seen in a while, and I wish I could feed both of them to my brain-damaged rabbit.

I can see how a child or someone that hasn’t really been exposed to an excess of Pokemon could enjoy these games (music aside), and I’ll at least give them that. Maybe cynical adults just aren’t their target audience anymore.

  1. I think it’s a adult thing, there had to be a reason we become so grumpy… I just assume it’s the things in life we’ve enjoyed most of our childhood and adalt live being shit appon so they can pander to a younger and sadly more inept then we were at their age….

  2. They did it because these are a test. How little can we do and still get peoples money also being the big N they dont as of yet have a habit of loading shit with micro transactions and you have to be blind not to see the possibility of adding pokemon by micros transactions. I can only see this release as one of those two things how lazy can we be and still have people buy it or 1 mixed with micro transactions. I was hopeful for it I have a switch and so far all i have on it are ports from other systems lol

    1. Personally, I believe they cut the content to sell it seperately later.
I mean, what other reason would they have to cut specifically the good and highly requested parts, leaving only the basics in (or that is the impression I get from people’s comments about it)?

  3. I haven’t played since the orig gold/silver (I did play orig red/blue on my brick shaped white game boy with the 1.5in screen).

Is it at least worth grabbing the let’s go eevee game?

  4. They claimed they snapped the Pokemon for 2 main reasons. Animation and Models. I’ll cover models first, in X and Y, when they first went 3D, they stated they made these models to last and can be used going forward so they will no longer have to create models for existing ones. Now they claim they cannot add them all cause of needing models… As the models stay the same. Second, the animation, they need space to improve animations for Sword and Shield. The animations have barely changed, take double kick as an example. For the space part, they moved to a new, more powerful system, yet still treat the space as a 3DS. Smash ultimate took almost all of a 32 GB sd card to download, so… Nintendo CAN make big games, completely contradicting their claim of no room.

That is my thoughts on the matter.

    1. Problem is, 3DS is diffwrent from the Switch. If the 3DS still had games come out on it, your arguments would be more solid. Let’s make an example, you make an app for Android and then, you decide to make it Apple compatible, you can’t just copy/paste stuff. As for space, Nintendo use experimental 32 to 64 GB cartridges for themselves and provide the reliable smaller sized ones because realibity issues. Do you know how much testing one chip has to go trought before being deemed ready? Each andnevery chips in the switch cartridge are tested before and after the program has been inscribed in them. They have to do that to provide quality stuff, same goes for Sony and Microsoft when they burn the games on disks.

  5. I’m starting to suspect that all franchises will invariably and unavoidably go to shit, with an increasing shit-going chance per addition, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

    1. Well, that’s kind of inevitable. Eventually, you just cannot take another step forward and are forced to step to the side (stagnate) or backwards (regress). Pokemon went backwards, likely in order to set up room to “improve” the next games.

      1. To elaborate: Pokemon went to space (gen 3 remake), traveled through dimensions twice (to Pokemon hell in platinum and just straight other dimensions in gen 7), went over some realistic (gen 5) and insane (gen 6) issues. They have no other way to go, so they’re expanding the world while grasping at anything they could do to create “new” out of thin air.

  6. Big thing to take away here guys: this is Game Freak’s doing, not Nintendo. Nintendo is just the publisher at this point in time. Game Freak is wanting to stay an independent developer as of now and controls the rights to Pokémon.

    1. This not GameFreak problem, it’s the Pokemon Company putting pressure on a tight schedule. GameFreaks only own a small percentage of Pokemon, most of it being owned by Creatures Inc and the Pokemon Company.

  7. I havent finished it yet Im having fun with it but there are some major problems Big one being no garchomp one of my favorite dragons!! I wanted to play the game myself before jumping fully on the hate machine. The animations aint bad for certain pokemon (electric doggo best) but still could use work the only thing that pissed me off was more than half the pokemon getting the thanos snap for basically no reason but to rush the game out at least animal crossing and metriod 4 had the ball to tell us they need to delay

  8. I’ve had no issues with the latest pokemon games. In fact, I’m enjoying them. I believe they are acting prudent since this is the first real pokemon game on a home system, sales chart proves they are selling like hotcakes, so I doubt they will change the removal of the national dex (which I never cared for). And they don’t need the games to make money, the Pokemon Company has a schedule and GameFreak has to comform to this schedule, even if they don’t have the greatest PR team (mistranslations have not helped with this case). So instead of “bitching” about how these games are not like the previous entries, I prefered to look at them with a fresh look.

  9. Are you also an old fan of the series? I became a fan in the 90’s and was a diehard fan of the series up until the Sun & Moon series came out. I thought that the Mega Evolution function was awesome and interesting and was told by a Gamestop employee that the sale rate of the X & Y games was the highest of all the previous games. If they’d brought back the Mega Evolution mechanic into this game with different ME’s this game might have been more interesting and fun! I also liked the anime series up until S&M…

    1. Pokemon red was simultaneously my first video game and in part how I learned English. I didn’t really care for the anime, but I’m certainly also an old fan.

The latest installment is so awful, it feels insulting.

  10. I absolutly love sonias theme,
a good soundtrack can make a good game great but a mediocre game will always he mediocre.
Another 6 months of dev time and sword and shield could have been so much better.

  11. haha. another pokeymans rant. personally i already got tired of canon pokemon games since Gen 2. i thought it got too complicated after that. Gen 2 was just nice amount of complexity in mechanics.

i love the mystery dungeon games though. give ’em a try!
